Quality Engineer / Specialist

Position Summary
The Quality Engineer/Specialist ensures that all products meet or exceed customer, regulatory, and internal quality standards. This role requires strong technical expertise, analytical capability, and leadership to drive quality improvement across production, supplier management, and engineering. The position supports defect prevention, process optimization, and continuous improvement while promoting a culture of quality excellence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Quality Engineering & Problem Solving
- Lead root-cause investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for internal and external quality issues.
- Analyze SPC data, monitor KPIs, and identify opportunities for process improvements.
- Support PPAP and prototype submissions.
Documentation & Standards
- Develop, maintain, and implement quality plans, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), PFMEAs, Control Plans, and inspection procedures.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and other industry standards.
- Review customer specifications, engineering drawings, and GD&T requirements to guide production and engineering teams.
Inspection & Measurement
- Conduct inspections and audits of incoming materials, in-process fabrication, and final assemblies.
- Support welding and fabrication quality verification.
- Program and operate Faro Arm or coordinate CMM inspections; utilize digital measurement tools for accuracy.
- Maintain calibration programs for gauges, fixtures, and measurement equipment.
- Provide support to Auditors and Quality Techs in addressing inspection related questions.
Supplier & Customer Interface
- Collaborate with suppliers to ensure quality requirements are met and manage supplier non-conformances.
- Serve as the primary contact for customer quality concerns and participate in customer site visits for sorting activities as needed.
Continuous Improvement and Safety
- Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives, Lean manufacturing projects, and knowledge-sharing activities.
- Promote and uphold health, safety, and environmental compliance in all quality functions.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline or equivalent experience.; PEng designation considered an asset.
- 3–7 years of quality engineering experience, preferably in steel fabrication, heavy manufacturing, or industrial production.
- Strong knowledge of ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and related QMS standards.
- Proficiency in GD&T, inspection methods, welding quality standards, and fabrication processes.
- Experience with Faro Arm, CMM programming, and digital measurement technologies preferred.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills using structured methodologies (e.g., 8D, Fishbone, 5 Why).
- Solid understanding of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies in root cause analysis and CAPA implementation.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and quality management software.
